Redact sensitive data in a PDF

Cover IDs, account numbers, addresses or signatures with solid blocks. The text underneath is permanently removed.

Supported file: PDF. You can also drag it here

Anonymize documents safely

Many tools just draw a black rectangle over the text, which is still there and can be copied. Here, each redacted page is turned into an image with the blocks already applied, so the information underneath no longer exists in the file.

Just drag over each piece of data to cover it: draw as many blocks as you need, on one page or many. Pages without redactions keep their original text.

How to redact a PDF, step by step

  1. 1

    Select the PDF.

  2. 2

Drag your mouse or finger over each piece of data to draw a block on it. Draw as many as you need; you can move them or remove them with ×.

  3. 3

Download the redacted PDF and review it before sharing.

Frequently asked questions

Can redacted content be recovered?

No. Redacted pages are turned into images and the text underneath is removed from the file.

Why is the redacted page no longer selectable?

Precisely so that nobody can copy or recover the covered information.

Does it also remove metadata?

No. If the author or other hidden data is sensitive, run the file through Remove Metadata afterwards.
